Cooling Solution Combining Evaporative Air Cooler and HVLS Fans

In large industrial buildings, effective cooling and maintaining comfort are crucial. When installing ventilation systems, selecting the appropriate system is one of the key considerations. Commonly used cooling systems in large spaces include industrial coolers and high-volume, low-speed fans. These devices are designed to enhance air circulation, reduce temperatures, and improve overall comfort, making them suitable for various application scenarios.

For many years, HVLS fans and evaporative coolers have been viewed as independent solutions. However, in reality, the two systems work even better when combined. Since evaporative cooling operates on a different principle than increasing airflow speed, integrating the two can maximize the cooling experience for indoor occupants. In areas where cooling is required, evaporative coolers and ceiling fans can replace energy-intensive, high-maintenance air conditioning systems.

How HVLS Fans Work:
HVLS Fans utilize their wide blades and unique blade profiles to move a significant volume of air downward at low speeds (up to 50 RPM). This creates a 360° "ground jet flow" that spreads outward. Unlike traditional fans, which circulate air locally, high-volume, low-speed fans evenly distribute air across vast spaces, effectively cooling the entire building. These fans do not lower air temperature but increase airflow, enhancing the body’s evaporative cooling, thereby providing a cooling sensation without reducing temperature and ensuring effective cooling for all personnel and equipment.

 

How Air Evaporative Coolers Work:
Evaporative coolers draw cold, dry air through cooling pad. As warm air passes over the cooling pad , it is cooled through evaporative effects. The cooled air is then distributed to all corners of the room. Since water is used in the cooling process, these coolers perform best in dry, hot, and low-humidity regions.

Optimal Performance of HVLS Fans and Evaporative Cooling:
When combined with evaporative cooling technology, HVLS fans can significantly enhance comfort. This system works by distributing the cool air generated by evaporative coolers, creating a uniform and amplified cooling effect. By integrating these two systems:

1. Enhanced Perceived Cooling: Depending on environmental conditions, the perceived temperature drop can increase by up to 12°C.

2. System Efficiency: The efficiency of evaporative coolers depends on ambient temperature and relative humidity, as shown in the table below.

3. When used in conjunction with evaporative cooling systems, airflow can improve cooling efficiency, allowing for lower set temperatures and reduced equipment runtime. Your HVAC system operates for shorter periods, enhancing comfort and lowering energy costs. This energy-efficient solution is suitable for ceiling heights within 10 meters (33 feet), where ceiling fans and evaporative coolers can be installed simultaneously.
