Hainan Small Convergence Computer Room Intelligent Reel‑type Fresh‑Air Energy‑Saving Retrofit Project
Located in Wenchang City, Hainan Province, this project covers a computer room renovation area of approximately 80 m². Such small‑scale convergence computer rooms commonly suffer from scattered locations, difficult maintenance, lack of water supply, and high heat transfer through building envelopes, which result in elevated PUE values. To cut air‑conditioning energy consumption, extend the service life of air‑conditioning units and reduce maintenance workload, the Aolan intelligent reel‑type fresh‑air system is deployed for this project. Making full use of natural cold sources, the system cools spaces by drawing in low‑temperature outdoor air and requires no water supply. Equipped with air‑filtration capability, it effectively guarantees indoor air cleanliness for the computer room. Its filter assembly can automatically trigger cleaning and replacement operations based on preset cycles or pressure differentials across the filter element, drastically lowering manual‑maintenance frequency.

Multiple sets of Aolan intelligent reel‑type fresh‑air energy‑saving retrofit systems are adopted in this project. Each system consists of intelligent reel‑filter fresh‑air supply fans, exhaust fans, rainproof devices and an intelligent control system. Two operating modes are available: intelligent fresh‑air mode and air‑conditioning linkage mode.
(1) Intelligent Fresh‑Air Mode: Under low‑temperature outdoor conditions, the intelligent reel‑type fresh‑air unit and exhaust fan start up, while air intake and exhaust valves open. Filtered low‑temperature outdoor fresh air is delivered into the computer room, and hot‑humid indoor air is discharged outdoors via the exhaust fan to achieve high‑efficiency ventilation and cooling.
(2) Precision Air‑Conditioning Linkage Mode: When outdoor weather features high temperature and high humidity and the intelligent fresh‑air system fails to meet indoor temperature‑humidity requirements of the computer room, the fresh‑air system shuts down automatically, intake and exhaust valves close, and the original computer‑room air‑conditioning system is activated through linkage. The air‑conditioning unit runs normally per original design parameters, and indoor air circulates internally for cooling.

Put into operation at the end of 2025, the system has maintained stable performance after commissioning. When the outdoor temperature is ≤ 21 °C, the intelligent fresh‑air system can replace the original air‑conditioning units for cooling purposes. It significantly shortens the operating hours of legacy air‑conditioning equipment, substantially cuts power consumption for computer‑room cooling, and reduces air‑conditioning maintenance workload, fulfilling the intended targets of energy‑saving renovation.
