Ventilation and Cooling Project for Shaanxi Airport Parking Garage
Project Overview
The newly built parking area at a Shaanxi airport, located north of Terminal T5, comprises the P5-A and P5-B parking garages. These semi-enclosed structures have four above-ground levels and three underground levels. As a major hub with high passenger traffic, the parking garage faces challenges like limited ceiling height, dense parking layout, and vehicle emissions causing high temperatures and poor air quality.
Solution Applied
To enhance passenger comfort, an evaporative cooling system was implemented. The project utilizes 136 compact evaporative air coolers and 2 large direct evaporative air handling units.
The smaller coolers are installed along pedestrian routes leading to the terminal, providing general cooling for walkways. Each floor is equipped with 8 to 20 units, managed by a centralized PLC control system per level and featuring a shared water supply/drainage system.
The larger units are located on the B1 level of the P5-B garage, supplying cooled fresh air to the B2 and B3 levels. This not only reduces temperature but also improves oxygen levels indoors.
Since the terminal's operation began in early 2025, data shows the system effectively maintains an outlet temperature around 28°C even during hot summers. It significantly improves thermal comfort and air quality in pedestrian areas, alleviating issues related to heat and odors, thereby successfully enhancing the travel experience.
